On behalf of the Chairperson, Executive committee and the entire membership of The Campaign for Democratic Change in Gambia (CCDG) in The UK, we applaud and embrace with a spirit of fraternity, the recent protestations witnessed In New York and organised by an amalgamation of several Gambian organisations and directed against the visit of president Jammeh to The United nations assembly.
The array of groupings and individual activists across the United States of America that came together(DUGA,Youth &Woman’s forum of Gambia,Tahawal Gambia)and many more too numerous to mention, has been a source of inspiration and a reminder to the global community of the unacceptable tyranny obtaining in The Gambia. The showcasing of Human Rights abuses, of abuse of power and flouting of the rule of Law by the executive and the continuing Economic decline in Gambia is one sure way of informing the world of the plight of our people.
We implore The UN and the various organisations assembled in New York to take note, and respond to the call of Gambians worldwidefor the establishment and practice of Democracy, goodgovernance and the rule of law as enshrined in all protocols governing the conduct of civilised behaviour that befits our times.
We embrace the widespread coverage of the Events of protests by Gambian journalists, broadcasters and bloggers and especially our brave youth and women who confronted the authors of tyranny by exposing them as such.
We must continue to remind ourselves of the unacceptable plight of our people , inform institutions and Governments of the abuse of Human Rights in Gambia and co-ordinate our efforts in our regions of abode and across to bring about the necessary impact for better outcomes and change in Gambia.
