As Gambians continue to suffer from oppression in the hands of the Jammeh administration and its accomplishes, Gainako has been reliably tipped off by intelligent sources in The Gambia that Momodou Lamin Shyngle Nyassi the Propaganda Secretary of the main Opposition Party in The Gambia may risk arrest and detention by the Jammeh administration in Banjul once he returns home from his current tour in the United States of America. Mr. Nyassi who is currently in the USA on an official visit has allegedly been in the wanted list since conducting an interview with both Freedom Newspaper and the RFI on the governing situation in the Gambia. Nyassi claimed in that interview that President Jammeh’s parents were not born in the Gambia. He further discussed about the President’s personal life which reportedly angered the administration.
Our intelligent sources said “Since Shyngle’s interview, the NIA has been instructed to download the interview and also record Nyassi’s voice as Jammeh was not happy with the details of the interview prompting him to urge his secret agency to monitor Nyassi and possibly arrest him once he returns home,” The source concerned about Nyassi’s safety noted that since he is concerned with the allege plot, the only way to help prevent another disappearance is to leak the information to the media as well as to some close associates to Nyassi which he did.
The officer who preferred anonymity further said some of his colleagues in the security services have been tasked to monitor the home of Nyassi in Brikama, his family, close associates in the party noting that the ball now is in the hands of Nyassi.
Gainako after speaking to some of Nyassi’s close associates has confirmed that they have received the information from intelligent sources that confirmed to them that the alleged information is reliable and that when he returns he is likely to face arrest and detention by the notorious NIA.
A close party associate to the UDP confirmed that he too read the interview on Freedom Online saying that he has seen nothing that can warrant the arrest of their strong man who has been opposing dictatorship in the West African Nation since the dawn of the APRC. He said there is nothing that Shyngle said in that interview that he has not said in the past while in Gambia. So there was nothing new the associate said but added the government is unpredictable because there is no free speech and democracy in the Gambia which makes it a false offense to talk against Jammeh in Banjul.
Before going to press with the sensitive story Gainako reached out to Shyngle Nyassi who is currently in New York about the authenticity of the story and if he was concerned about it. Mr. Nyassi told our editor that he too has received numerous calls from his family and friends about the alleged threat. He however, dismiss it as fear mongering and added that he has been arrested so many times and even tortured while in detention. He said he was not concern about it and nothing will stop him from doing his job as an opposition spokes person. Nyassi sounded determined to focus on his work and will eventually return at the end of his mission. Gainako will continue to monitor the situation as we are cognizant of the fact that this administration has no respect for dissent and can be callous with peoples’ lives. In fact, Shyngle Nyassi has not said anything in those interviews that he has not said before while on the ground in Gambia. Therefore, his interview should not be seen as a threat to the administration.
