Desert Mirages
By Yero Jallow
Desert mirages from the far and near
Shinning with bright and layering sky horizons
Attracting its many travelers on camels’ saddles
On heaps of bare uncountable sandy land
For desert travelers on their long undefined journeys
Accompanied with overhead clouding twinkling stars
Hurrying to desert mirages divisive without tact.
As Desert travelers arrive at a mirage, the water was in thin air
Their feet dirtied and eyes blinded with flying dust
Desert travelers fight the thirst for another far away mirage
As they engage in the race to spot another mirage
With endless confusion, arguments and wishful victories
No lesson learnt on desert mirages during the long journey
So these desert travelers continue non-stop.
