News breaking out of Banjul and reaching Gainako this evening is that Finance Minister Abdou Kolley has tendered his resignation effective immediately. Mr. Kolley one of the longest serving ministers in the Jammeh regime also see writings on the wall and is calling it quits. His resignation came amid political tension with Jammeh refusing to handover power to President-elect Barrow who is due to be inaugurated on January 19th in four days.
Mr. Kolley’s resignation is being preempt by the embattled leader who is going to announce that Mr. Kolley is being fired Monday morning. What they may not know is that Gainako is already in receipt of Minister Kolley’s resignation letter which we will publish if the administration deny his resignation.
As we go to press other ministers are allegedly also in the process of tendering their resignations as ECOWAS closes in to forcefully remove Jammeh and inaugurate President-elect Barrow on Thursday as mandated by the constitution of the Gambia.
The political tension in the Gambia is heightened and thousands of Gambians are seen fleeing to neighboring Senegal and to the provincial parts of the country. This is a situation that many Gambians never anticipated to witness a refugee status after the people have clearly spoken at the December polls. Outgoing President Jammeh has refused to accept defeat after initially conceding the elections to Adama Barrow and the coalition. Mr. Barrow was evacuated from the Gambia to attend a Francophone meeting in Mali Saturday and he is reportedly hosted by Senegal to wait for the inauguration on Thursday. This is a developing story and Gainako is closely monitoring the situation and will update our readers as it develops…
