In an email to Gainako and other online sister papers, Yusupha Jow newly appointed coordinator of Gambia Consultative Committee (GCC) said he has resigned from his position with immediate effect. Mr. Jow stated the main reason for his resignation was due to family and work responsibilities citing the “speed and pace of activities” of GCC going at a pace he was not anticipating. Jow, who is one of the founders of the Gambiapost has been active in the Gambian Diaspora struggle and was instrumental in the formation of the GCC. He confirmed in a facebook posting couple of weeks ago that he in fact consented to serving the GCC as a coordinator.
What is not very clear from the resignation email Jow sent is whether he still support the organization as a non official member. Gainako reached out to the spoke person of GCC Mr. Assan Martin to validate the story but he asked to be given more time to react to the story. He responded to say that he will issue an official response after he reads the full story. At the time of going to press Mr. Martin still haven’t gotten back to Gainako.
Below is the resignation email from Jow as sent to the media:
Dear Gainako/Freedom Newspaper:
This is to inform you that I am resigning my position as GCC coordinator with immediate effect. I was asked to coordinate GCC activities on January 21st, a responsibility I wholeheartedly accepted.
However, as daily operations of the organization have unfolded, it has become crystal clear to me that family and work responsibilities do not allow me to keep up to speed with the pace of activities.
I am no longer involved in the day to day activities of the organization hence should not be considered a party to any decisions made by the organization.
I wish the GCC best of luck in their mission to make The Gambia a better place for all.
Sincerely, Yusupha C Jow
