I have a dream that I put before God, one day our people will restored their dignity and freedom that they lost for 19 years. I have a dream that one day our Imams and scholars will tell the truth to our leaders without fearing of detention and torture. I have a dream that one day our Journalist will criticize the government at any space on their papers without charges of false information to the public. I have a dream that one day human right defenders will report freely about the condition of our country without running to exile for fear of torture and disappearance.
I have a dream that one day our educated ministers will explore their knowledge and work freely without fear of dismissal and charges on economic crimes. I have a dream that one day our students will be given free permit to demonstrate their anger in the streets of Banjul down to Serrekunda, from Brikama to Soma, from Bansang to Basse down to Barra without fearing of shooting to death. I have a dream that one day our independent radio stations, online newspapers and print media will be used to educate and create greater awareness of government policies, constitution and human rights issues to the general public without fear of closing/blocking the source of information by the state authorities.
I have a dream that one day our people will be given chance to choose freedom, not tyranny; democracy, not dictatorship; the rule of law, not the rule of the secret police and killers. I have a dream that one day dictatorship, injustice, tyranny and oppression will be history of the past forgotten and freedom and democracy will flourish.
Let Freedom Ring! Freedom Ring! in our own beloved country The Gambia
