Famous YouTuber and Twitch streamer, Kai Cenat is facing charges for unlawful assembly and inciting a riot on Friday after thousands of his followers stormed New York City’s Union Square. This was after the social media influencer promised his 11 million followers on Twitch and YouTube free giveaways including PlayStation 5 and other items.
The unlawful gathering started growing after Kai Cenat and another streamer named Fanum, posted on social media that they will give out PlayStation 5 consoles at New Your City’s Union Park at 4 pm. With over two million followers to their name, people came out as early as 13:00 hrs local time and by 15:30 hrs, hundreds had filled the streets of New York’s busiest train stop.

Arriving to the scene in a tour bus full of his fellow influencers, Kai Cenat went on a live stream while he was inside a vehicle in Union Square. Watching the disorderly gathering on his phone while on the stream he told his followers, “Everybody who is out there, make sure you are safe. Appreciate everybody [showing up]”. Concerned for his personal safety he told fans, “we not going to do nothing [giveaway gifts] until we are safe”.
The crowd got even more disorderly after Kai Cenat left the tour bus to meet his fans but ended up escaping without giving all the giveaways as his security rushed him to safety. In reaction, disappointed fans started throwing objects and fireworks after Police Officers tried to control the crowd. People were seen climbing on vehicles, vandalising private and public property and engaging in disorderly conduct around the train station entrances.
It took over 1,000 officers from the New York Police Department to control the crowd which resulted in more than sixty people arrested and many others injured. Mr Cenat was arrested on the same day and the crowd were eventually dispersed, CBS News Network reported that Kai Cenat is set to appear in court where he will be charged with calling for an unlawful gathering and inciting a riot.
Kai Cenat is 21 years old and famous for playing video games online and other video content. If found guilty he could face time in jail.
