After showing contempt by postponing the State Opening of the National Assembly last week at the last minute, the Gambian Dictator Yahya Jammeh has rescheduled the State Opening of the National Assembly to next Thursday March 31st, 2016. Since his abrupt and very unprofessional surprised postponement, no apology or explanation has been given by the office of the President as to why he did a ‘No Show’ at a constitutionally mandated event. To add insult to injury, soon after the announcement it was reported that Jammeh arrogantly drove by the National Assembly waving over the roof of his motorcade.
Memo on rescheduling of State Opening of Parliament
If there is anything that this episode proves is that Jammeh is continuing to demonstrate gross arrogance, defiance and total disrespect to the national assembly members, dignitaries and hundreds of citizens who convened at the State Opening. The National Assembly at the very least should demand an explanation or continue to dance to the tune of a lunatic who screams jump and expects the usual response of how high. Jammeh should apologize to the Gambian people, the National Assembly, Cultural leaders and Foreign Diplomats. Some of the attendees had traveled far and wide and arrived at the NAM as early as 3pm only to be told at 6pm that Jammeh has done a ‘No Show’.
Should the National Assembly convene a meeting without an apology or logical explanation for the impromptu postponement? Some observers believe that the NAMs should consider his latest waste of state funds and time as legitimate grounds for his impeachment. His disrespect and lack of remorse over the issue, demonstrates Jammeh’s lack of clout and ability to run the state. This is the first in the history of the nation that the President so disrespectfully failed to attend the opening of the national assembly without any explanation. Last week Gainako published the article below of why Jammeh postponed the state opening. https://gainako.com/family-feud-led-to-jammehs-cancellation…/
