The Deputy Regional Crime Officer for Kanifing Municipality, Superintendent Thomas RJ Gomez told members of the press that two alleged suspects have been apprehended for the alleged murder of a 62-year-old woman at Fajara south. Police say they have recovered evidence from the crime scene and will be heading to court soon.
It could be recalled that on Sunday 4th September 2022, the Fatu Network reported that a 62-year-old woman from Fajara South was found lifeless inside her house laying on a pool of water knee deep. Eyewitnesses say her bruises were found on her face and neck and were eventually pronounced dead after she was rushed to the main referral Hospital in Banjul.
In a rare move, the Police held a press conference on Thursday 8th September 2022 at Kairaba Police Station where Investigators disclosed that the alleged suspects and others are currently helping the Police with their investigation. Police further confirmed that the alleged suspects are at the age of 20 to 25 years old.
“Some items of evidence which are very helpful to the police have already been recovered”, however, “there [are] still some outstanding items that are stolen from the deceased house,” said Lead Investigator Mr Gomez.
According to Superintendent Gomez, the items recovered include mobile phones and some other vehicle keys which are “actually with us (the investigation team)”. He seized the opportunity to urge the Public to come forward with information on the stolen items stolen from the deceased house.
“We [have] gone a little bit far now and very soon the case will be at court,” said Superintendent Gomez who also doubles up as the Lead Investigator of the case.
According to Lead Investigator Gomez, the case was reported by the daughter of the deceased on the same day at 15:40 pm while the investigation commenced on Monday 5th September 2022.
Investigator Gomez highlighted that “progress is been made” but the media will not be given “full details as to where” they are in regards to their investigations.
