One of the victims of NIA torture of April 14th, 2016 Nogoi Njie has made an emotional appeal for medical treatment from wounds she sustained in the hands of state agents. Mrs. Njie who among several other opposition supporters were tortured and one killed by former President Jammeh’s NIA agents released a detailed Whatsapp Audio narrating her ordeal and what she continues to go through since her torture that left her and others almost dead in the hands of state security agencies. Mrs Njie, Fatoumata Jawara, the late Solo Sandeng among several others all UDP supporters were protesting against the Jammeh regime calling for electoral reforms. The group leader Solo Sandeng was tortured to death and his body buried near Tanji. All alleged NIA perpetrators of the alleged crime are in custody undergoing trial for murder.
Mrs. Njie’s emotional appeal comes two years after the New coalition government was elected into power. From her audio recording going viral on social media, Nogoi narrated how she tried to personally meet President Barrow at the State House since his election into office to explain her condition but was repeatedly turned down. She had to wait until president Barrow visited his home village almost 400 kilometers away from his office before she drove there to meet him. According to Mrs Njie, President Barrow promised to provide her with medical treatment through his own personal doctor. The President pledged to pay for all her medical treatment.
Upon her return, a doctor visited her home and did some medical exams on her. The doctor also promised to provide the President with her medical reports. He appears to have never provided the report to President Barrow for reason better known to him. After several attempts and months waiting, Nogoi Njie was yet to see any serious treatment the doctors provided. She was given some medication to contain the pain but nothing close to a possible oversees treatment expected with such traumatic experience. Mrs Njie could no longer contain the pain and disappointment alone so she made a desperate national and global appeal to get some attention for her urgent medical needs. There are several other citizens including the April 10 & 11th student victims who suffered similar traumatic experience under the Jammeh regime and are yet to get any medical attention.
It is inconceivable for people like Nogoi Njie and several others to continue to suffer in silence two years after a government that came to power through the sweats and the backs of Jammeh’s victims. How can the Barrow government justify not paying attention to the condition of these citizens two years into power? How can they explain and justify spending over D240 Million Dalasis on government travel and not be able to afford medical check up and treatment for these high trauma victims of dictatorship? How do the government explain begging Qatar, Saudi or China to Charter expensive jets for the President’s trip to New York and China and not find it in their hearts to seek for treatment for these victims? The most unfortunate thing about Nogoi Njie’s story is that her party the United Democratic Party is largely in charge of government including it’s own party leader as Vice President. Why are these victims crying for treatment when several have already died from such trauma? What is more important than according these citizens medical treatment to mitigate the pain and suffering they continue to endure.
Nogoi Njie’s unfortunate public cry will now get its attention as the Gambian Diaspora has risen up to her call and have created a gofundme to collect funds on her behalf. It is rather unfortunate that even the Diaspora would wait for her to swallow her pride and beg for help. The Gambian people are better than that and it should never have gotten to this level. Unfortunately, as usual the reactionary government will also now send its people to Nogoi Njie as we have seen with the first lady posing for photo ops for publicity. It is an understatement to say that the government and Nogoi Njie’s party leadership have failed her miserably and it is regrettable that it has to come down to this for her to get her attention. This medium and several others have covered stories of victims in the last two years through the victims’ center but the government looked the other way. Nogoi Njie, Fatoumata Jawara, Yusupha Jobe and several other victims deserve better. We hope President Barrow will once again catch up to reality and lead his government to do what is right… To donate and support this fundraising please donate through the Gofundme by click on the link… https://www.gofundme.com/mrs-nogoi-njies-medical-aid?fbclid=IwAR2zcko05ZbmXFwybeaZ6F7vNsolQzdAI8HDlOHo-blQAa6JMNyCpFdaAd8

I posted this comment below on the Kairo news website since November 2018, under the same topic but but it’s censored because it’s critical of the government Kairo news crew are bent on defending by all means at all costs; it’s the same views being suggested by TRRC Chairman; how pathetic & ironical that the same ‘journalists’ can hypocritically pretend to fight for Press Freedom, at the same time, when they themselves aid & abate suppression of independent opinion???
#It’s quite scary how quickly the politicians resorted to selfish & partisan inclination interestes in squabble; soon after the departure of the kanilai Evilness Killer Devil; instead of prioritising resources for common communal uplifting for the betterment of general public….
One would’ve hoped, due to the nature of our communal circumstances emerging from the deadly struggle against the Evil kanilai Murderdom for the past 22 years; for an emergency fund to be allocated in every subsequent budgets thereafter, immediately after the coalition government took charge, as a NECESSITY; until anytime when the TRRC took charge over the mandate; for EMERGENCY towards the affairs for treatments & basic health care necessities for every identified direct-victim of the kanilai Evildom…
Instead, it’s the personal gratifications of the politicians, as we’ve so far witnessed, taking precedent above everything including the LIVES & WELFARE of the gallant comrades who took the direct effect of the deadly assaults of the Murderous kanilai Evilness; while in the struggle in unison to reclaim the motherland for everyone in humanity & for Gambians in particular & the generations unborn….
It’ll take some time but Gambians will surely see to realistic changes effected & corruption in particular are effectively curbed…
Just spoken to a colleague in Gambia who confirmed to me that my international call he received was registered on his phone as a local Commium number; I asked him to lodge a complaint to (PURA) the Revenue Authority for investigation; I told him that he’s at least the third person who made the same confirmations whilst on the phone to them; this is some corrupt tappings to defraud Gamtel & the Gambia of revenue directly, instead of paying the right revenue to government by the local phone company responsible for termination of the international calls on the ground in the Gambia; just for example, amongst many; not to mention the president’s own “brown envelopes” to the MPs, etc etc …
Surely, the Gambia & politicians in particular can, should (MUST) do better…
God bless Gambia…
