Created by Gainako Online Newspaper as a collaborative tool for Parliamentary News Reporters, GPN features contributions from Journalists working for Foroyaa Newspaper. The Newsletter also includes technical input from a proofreader and a graphic designer who implemented the new-look banners. The ultimate aim of the GPN is to publish one Newsletter per month for the entire five-year term of the Sixth Legislature.
After publishing three GPN Editions for April, May and June 2022, the support from MSDG will ensure that an entire year of newsletters will be published. Some special edition newsletters will also be featured during this period. There are plans to include more radio programs, Facebook Live, TV appearances and other public outreaches on the GPN to disseminate Parliamentary proceedings in local languages and to encourage dialogue between Parliamentarians and their constituents.
This latest edition features exclusive stories featuring the weeklong tour of three Parliamentary Committees in early September 2022, Parliament’s Environment Committee Chair calling for Gam Petroleum to be punished for oil spillages in Mandinary that occurred in June 2022, Hon Fatou Cham of Sanneh Mentereng’s advocacy on Women Leadership, NAMs supporting their constituents during flash floods and Hon Abdoulie Njai of Banjul Central’s African Icon to name a few.

The back page of the fourth edition features the regular “Voice of the Nation” segment highlighting the Westminster Foundation for Democracy’s training of Parliamentary Staff in mid-August 2022, the National Youth Parliament’s sitting featuring the Youth Speaker’s ejection of the Serrekunda Youth Representative, Gambia Participates engagement of Parliamentarians on the Electoral Bill and The Gambia ranking 6th in Africa’s first Open Parliament Index to name a few.
