On Thursday 24th February 2022 the Ministry of Health (MoH) received medical items worth over US$40,000 Dollars as donations from the Israeli Embassy in Dakar at the Central Medical Store in Kotu. Some two tons of medical items were donated to help the MoH in the fight against COVID-19 and other diseases. The items donated include; masks, personal protective gears, wheelchairs, beds, surgical equipment and much more.
Delivering the welcoming statement, Rene Geoffery Renner the chairman of the MoH’s Donations Committee thanked the donors for their kind gesture and promised to distribute the items accordingly.
Walead Gudban the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Israeli Embassy in Dakar said this donation is to help the MoH in its fight against the Corona Virus and other deadly diseases, it will further strengthen the bilateral ties between The Gambia and Israel.
Speaking on behalf of the MoH, Permanent Secretary Momodou Lamin Jaiteh praised the donors and reassured them that the donated items will be put to good use.
Director of Health Promotions and Education, Mr Modou Njai who chaired the event added that the donated items will go a long way in assisting the work of the Ministry.
During the vote of thanks delivered by the Director of National Pharmaceutical Services Mr Badinding Sabally and Deputy Fatou Samateh, they expressed the MoH’s ambition for Gambians to be able to travel to Israel for Medical Treatment without hassle.
At the end of the event, the medical items were officially handed over to the MoH by the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Israeli Embassy in Dakar after which he was taken on a tour of the Central Medical Store.
