    Kansala FC Defeats Fajara Barracks in Penalties to Clinch Bakau Super Cup

    Kansala Football Club defeated Fajara Barracks FC, 5-4 in penalties to win the Bakau Super Cup after a 90 minutes match. It took less than a quarter of an hour for Yusupha Jammeh of Kansala FC to register the first goal of the match forcing a response from Sainey Tamba of Fajara Barracks FC who levelled the scores 1 all with 29 minutes on the clock.

    Kansala Football club qualified after winning the league and knockout cup in 2019 while Fajara Barack FC qualified through second place finish in the same year.

    In a kickoff which took place around 5 pm in the evening on Sunday 11th September 2022, both sides missed series of clear chances to win the game before it went to penalties shootout. Strikers from Kansala FC and Fajara Barracks FC found both keepers in fine form, repelling everything the attackers had to fire at them.

    When it came to penalty kicks, Fajara Barracks FC missed 4 and scored 4, whiles the Kachikally base team missed two penalty kicks to sink the hopes of Fajara Barracks FC fans. When Buba Jammeh fired in the winning penalty kick for Kansala FC their fans erupted in jubilation at the thought of securing the trophy and local bragging rights.

    After the dramatic high-pressure penalty shootout, Kansala FC Coach Ousman Bojang highlighted that the trophy means a lot to his side who applied his tactics to the letter in this must-win game.

    “We have now registered our name in Bakau football winning three trophies, we would prepare more for the upcoming competition,” noted Coach Bojang.

    Speaking to the Coach of Fajara Barracks FC, Abdoulie Bah he bemoaned that he needed to see more from his team. He blamed their lack of thorough preparation for the defeat to the local rivals.

    “Poor preparation is the cause of our defeat and I think I have to prepare more coming for the upcoming competition,” said the Fajara Barracks FC Coach.

    For winning the Bakau Super Cup Kansala FC went home with a D20,000 cheque and the much coveted winning Gold Medal, while runners-up, the Fajara Barracks FC went home with a D15,000 cheque and a Silver Medal thanks to support from the Jaiteh Kunda family.

    Kansala FC has won an impressive three trophies within a calendar year in Bakau. Both coaches said they are preparing well for the upcoming Nawettan and thanked their players for the beautiful brand of football they dished out to fans. They both welcomed the newly promoted side to the competition.

    The Super Cup was witnessed by several football stakeholders and football enthusiasts at the Bakau football park which is considered one of the best football pitches in Kanifing Municipality.
