Gambian Talents Promotion has yet released another COVID-19 Vaccine theme song this time featuring the King of Afro-Manding Jaliba Kuyateh and Galaxy of Gambian Stars.
This comes barely 2 weeks after the organization released an Afro-fusion version on 25th May 2021 which features 14 of the country’s most popular artists of the younger generation and modern music singers.
With support from the Washington Department of Health and All-in Washington, GTP launched a three months campaign in April 2021 to encourage Gambians and West Africans in Washington and elsewhere to take the Coronavirus vaccine.
“We have already produced 2 theme songs featuring over 20 Gambian artists singing in different local languages, 6 Skits and other videos by different community and religious leaders and testimonies from community members who already took the vaccine.” The Executive Director of Gambian Talents Promotion, Pa Ousman Joof said in a statement.
According to Joof, ” we produce the traditional version to promote diversity and cater for the adult crowd who may not listen to the Afro-fusion version. We brought together 15 of their favorite artists including the legendary Jaliba Kuyatreh, Sambou Susso, Tata Dingding Jobarteh and a galaxy of other Gambian stars such as Barhama Cham, Abou and Fafa, Bobo Dimo, Lena B, Neneh Jali Suso, Alieu Badara of Humanity Starz, Binta Sanynag, Jah Cause, Pa Mboop, Amie Sosseh, Dave Ndow and Sora Jali all of whom sang in different languages.” Said Joof.
The Afro-fusion version which was released on African Liberation Day (May 25th 2021) is already gaining popularity amongst the youthful population as it’s enjoying the airways on both local, ethnic and social media platforms. “It’s anticipated that this more traditional version will gain similar reviews as it features some of the country’s finest vocalists including Jaliba Kuyateh singing in different languages” Mr Joof assures.
The theme of the song is “Get Vaccinated to protect yourself and others!”
Whereas the Afro-fusion version was produced by Triple J at the Jlive Studios, the much-anticipated traditional version was produced by Tara of Xalam Studio with the country’s finest instrumentalist including drummer Sheikh Tijan, Dave Tama, Jali Matar Sosseh, and Kebba Taylor who played the Base guitar in the song.
Mr Joof reveals that “the music videos of both songs are already in the making and will be shared with the general public via the different mediums once they are done and an official closing ceremony and virtual festival will be organized in The Gambia in late July 2021 at the end of the campaign. I thank all our partners Washington Department of Health, All-in Washington, Snohomish County Vaccine Task Force Committee, The producers Jlive Studios and Xalam Studio, all the artists, the musicians, the media and the general public”. Joof ended.
