At Gainako, Human Rights is considered non negotiable and of paramount importance. This is why our reporters advocate for the protection of human rights in the Gambia through our news reports and human rights advocacy for victims.

Victims' Compensation

Going beyond the news, our reporters have published breaking news on the assault of one Ebrima Sanneh by then Anti Crime Unit Commissioner and the assault of Banjul Rapper Chipa Yi by a gang of Police Officers. In both cases our reporters went beyond the news to advocate for victims compensation by forwarding complaints to the National Human Rights Commission.

This resulted in two compensation to victims to the tune of D20,000 and D30,000. Below are two Gainako publications on compensation for victims of human rights violations in the current administration. A further two publications detail the compensation payments due to victims of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.

Transitional Justice

The Gambia is currently undergoing a Transitional Justice process which currently Centers on the implementation of the Recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC).
The TRRC was enacted by the Government of President Adama Barrow to investigate the human rights excesses of the regime of former President Yahya Jammeh.

Below is a highlight of four of Gainako’s most recent stories stories on the Gambia’s Transitional Justice process.
