GFF Elections: Few decides for many thus Electoral Committee should wear fair play lenses
This isn’t one of the elections were, mature, sane and registered Gambians are entitled to vote. It is a vote limited to a few who could be chosen by club members or handpicked by a club president, Reginal Football/Allied Association president.
Hours ago, the GFF Electoral Committee issued a release calling on stakeholders to send in the names of delegates and to specify who among the delegates would vote l as per Article 23.1 a & b. This is only applicable to the first and second-division clubs.
The release went further to state that, “whereas, as per Article 23.1 c; all seven Regional Football Associations (RFA) have four delegates” but never mentioned how many voting nights to be as clear as article 32.1 a & b. This appears deliberate from the Electoral Committee because the constitution states that each of the four delegates from the region is entitled to vote.
Article 23.1 d, e, f, g, h, on the other hand further states that all the Allied Associations each have three voting delegates.
What this means is that constitution does not contain block voting or voting by proxy.
This year’s race is between one group that thought they deserve a chance to continue the work they started, stabilise the status and bring progress in the game while the other group believes football has lost its true identity thus they’re promising hope by restoring confidence.
The teams are led by Lamin Kaba Bajo and Sadibou Kamaso. These two were bedfellows up until recently when Sadibou declared his intention to uproot his former bedmate Kaba from his position.
On Saturday, August 27, 2022, 77 delegates (privileged ones) will decide who runs the football for the next four years. I don’t know how very well informed these delegates are to independently make a choice but what is certain is that the entire nation’s weight is on your shoulders.
On this faithful day, whoever picks that token, remember you’re writing history for the Gambian people. Be dictated by your conscience not an individual, money or position.
There would be 111 delegates as per my tabulation but only 77 will vote in person, not through someone.
Here is a breakdown of the people who would decide for us come the 28th;
32 delegates, 16 votes from 16 Division One Clubs,
36 delegates, 18 votes from 18 Second Division Clubs,
28 delegates, 28 votes from regions one to seven,
15 votes combined from the Women`s Football Association, Football Refereeing Association, Football Coaches Association, Football Players Association and School’s Football Association
Sadibou and Kaba need just 36 votes.
