In an exclusive interview with Gainako radio former Vice President of the Gambia Honorable Bakary Bunja Darboe who had briefly returned to serve the AFPRC during its early days has described President Jammeh as someone who lacks “maturity, capacity to think and understanding of basic issues” Mr. Darboe was responding to a question by Gainako’s co-editor Demba Baldeh who asked about his impression of President Jammeh when he met him upon his return to work for the AFPRC government.
In what appears to be a high level assessment of first impressions of a young leader, from someone who is highly experienced in governing affairs and who has served the Gambian nation in various capacities, Mr. Darboe was convinced that Yahya Jammeh was probably not the right person to take Gambia to the next level from the very minute he met him.
This assessment of President Jammeh then Chairman Jammeh when he met Ex VP Darboe appears to be spot on given all the policies and governing decisions including public pronouncements President Jammeh has made over the years. Many Gambians and close observers of governing issues in the Gambia would attest that President Jammeh has made absurd decisions that are beyond expectations of a leader of a nation… He cites some incidents when President Jammeh would make remarks in diplomatic settings where conference attendees only looked each other in the eyes in disbelief.
Mr. Darboe went further to insinuate that he had expected that the young Yahya Jammeh might be able to learn from history and improve a little bit… It became clear to him within a short period of time that Jammeh was “either not learning, not willing to learn or did not want to learn” “Jammeh manifested personality flaws or lack common human touch, he possessed callous human feelings and he displayed low moral quality and basic ethics”. the former Vice President added.
