ECOWAS must equally hold the Gambian Parliamentarians responsible for any political instability in the Gambia. The powerful and unflinching message sent by ECOWAS to Gambia’s outgoing President Yahya Jammeh to respect the will of the Gambian people has been historic. Yahya Jammeh has gotten the message clear and concise that he must respect the will of the people and relinquished power in two days or face the might of the West African force.
ECOWAS must also realized that Yahya Jammeh is not the only one bend on disrespecting the will of Gambian electorates who spoke clearly at the December polls. Since the impasse of the December polls Gambia’s Parliament has deliberately been helping Jammeh to subvert the Democratic will of the people. ECOWAS must note that both Jammeh and the house of representatives must be held accountable for refusing to respect the constitution of the Gambia and ask Jammeh to give up power. In fact, Jammeh has found willing and able allies in the toothless law makers who have shown nothing but unpatriotic and act of cowardice during this process. It must also be noted that Yahya Jammeh throughout his 22 years of dictatorship and oppression was aided by the rubber stamping parliament who are only out to collect their paychecks.
In fact, Gambians and ECOWAS must note that President-elect Adama Barrow and the coalition won over 50% of the 53 constituencies across the nation. So common sense dictates that elected representatives whose constituent voted overwhelming for the President-Elect should side with the Democratic will of the people and call for peaceful transition of power. Not a single Parliamentarian apart from the opposition and Independence has spoken about the danger of defeated President Yahya Jammeh to transition power peacefully. Instead the house of irresponsible law makers are busy figuring out a way to keep Jammeh power through unconstitutional means. They did not only have the guts but the patriotism and courage to stand up with the people.
ECOWAS and the world must therefore hold these members accountable for their deliberate and unpatriotic subversion of the Democratic process in the Gambia. The law makers must be put in the same box with Yahya Jammeh, the Military and NIA for their selfish attempt to plunge the Gambia into political unrest and civil war. What kind of law makers are these people seeing thousands of Gambians fleeing the country to neighboring Senegal and the countryside. What greater responsibility those law makers have that is greater than ensuring peace political transition, economic and social stability? Do these law makers have an iota of responsibility to ensure that the voices of their constituents who are paying their salaries are heard. Who has made the effort to visit their area to have a dialogue with their voters? Instead what we have seen is Parliament asking for ECOWAS to send judges to Gambia to hear a flimsy petition of a loser. Where were these law makers when Yahya Jammeh was dismissing Supreme court judges and blatantly refused to fill the seats. Where were these law makers when Jammeh was deliberately changing electoral laws to suit him and his party? The Gambia people and ECOWAS must hold these law makers directly responsible for any unrest in Gambia. Sanctions must be levied against all of them their families for heartlessly destabilizing the Gambia for just to receive a paycheck. This the highest act of patriotism and act of cowardice on these so called law makers. They don’t deserve any respect for failing to live up to their oath of office.

Reading the paragraph below in your write up, makes me think deeply about what the legislative (APRC NAMs) members have been irresponsibly making and legislating laws that will only favour yaya ammeh’s interest , when the majority of Gambians will be the victims as we are in today. what a shame, and SHAME on YOU, aprc NAMs.
