The types of potential enterprises are numerous such as, Shoe repair (There are no adequate repair shops in the country with proper equipment for stitching, cutting and finishing) someone with the skill and equipment could set up in any part of the country or others could also. Service operations for appliance repair, trash removal, landscaping, and an endless list of others, await operators.
There are willing and able workers here to meet any added staff demands. Some 4,000 of the Returnees from the North African and European camps have been enrolled in the special skills
Program recently established which is also attempting to supply equipment and tools for them.
A note to Ministry of Trade and Finance: Returnees bringing in equipment for a newly applied Business License should be allow an exemption or wavier for such goods in order to promote the rapid acceptance of this program.
For those in the Diaspora that are not returning, this may be another way to improve Gambia in conjunction with remittances by visiting and setting up an enterprise. Relying on tourism and the farming aspect has limited mass prospects, while a strong service sector will offer alternative possibilities. We envision a creation of Thousands of jobs utilizing this concept
