GOAL – 5,000 SMALL-SCALE BUSINESS VENTURES CREATING JOBS!

The push is on in America and Europe for the return of Gambians to their ‘Native Soil’.  If this involves you, what will you do when and if you return? Many have acquired skills – advanced education and business experience during their ‘Absence’ from the country.
These attributes can be applied to building the economy in a way that government can never accomplish sighting in on large investors. The past typical foreign investors have shown that they have little or no respect for workers. Low Pay – Default with Benefits – Sackings and lack of Medical Assistance.

A positive advance by government was the lowering of company filing and setting up costs, as now for a simple enterprise the fee is a modest D500.

What you have to offer is Input to the Value Chain based on experience and tried and true skills.

There is also the factor of equipment and tools that could be available to you where you are. At the workplace they may have excess or to be scraped items or at yard / garage/ flea markets a variety of these items are necessarily for service and petite manufacturing businesses here,

The types of potential enterprises are numerous such as, Shoe repair (There are no adequate repair shops in the country with proper equipment for stitching, cutting and finishing) someone with the skill and equipment could set up in any part of the country or others could also. Service operations for appliance repair, trash removal, landscaping, and an endless list of others, await operators.

There are willing and able workers here to meet any added staff demands. Some 4,000 of the Returnees from the North African and European camps have been enrolled in the special skills

Program recently established which is also attempting to supply equipment and tools for them.

A note to Ministry of Trade and Finance: Returnees bringing in equipment for a newly applied Business License should be allow an exemption or wavier for such goods in order to promote the rapid acceptance of this program.

For those in the Diaspora that are not returning, this may be another way to improve Gambia in conjunction with remittances by visiting and setting up an enterprise. Relying on tourism and the farming aspect has limited mass prospects, while a strong service sector will offer alternative possibilities. We envision a creation of Thousands of jobs utilizing this concept
