Kukoi Samba Sanyang former Gambia dissident and the mastermind behind the 1981 failed attempted coup against the Jawara regime has reportedly been arrested in Senegal and detained at the airport in Dakar. Reliable information has it that Senegal was contemplating expelling Kukoi out of their country to either Gambia or Mali.
Kukoi Samba Sanyang was recently interviewed by Essa Bokarr Sey of Hello Gambia where he discussed in details his role in the 1981. He narrated his ordeals and the unfortunate events on that fateful day in Gambia where hundreds of Gambians and Senegalese lost their lives.
Our latest source who spoke to the family has confirmed that the Senegalese Government has decided to expel Kukoi to the West African State of Mali. Journalists, Gambian and human rights activists have expressed concerned that returning Kukoi Gambia may lead to his arrest, detention and possible execution by the Jammeh government.
