Following the expulsion of chad blogger Makaila makaila Nguébla from Senegal on 7 May 2013 to Guinea-Conakry now living in France with a grant of a long-term visa, Abubacarr Saidykhan, a Gambian journalist living in Dakar faces risk of deportation to Banjul by Senegalese authorities.
Abubacarr Saidykhan a freelance investigative journalist jointly condemned the execution of death row inmates in The Gambia in September 2012 with Baboucarr Ceesay the first vice president of Gambia Press Union by applying for a police to organize a peaceful demonstration.
Saidykhan was detained together with Ceesay for four days and pressed with two criminal charges of Conspiracy to commit felony, incitement to violence and an extra charged pressed on his colleague, Ceesay for publishing a story about the execution on the Kenya-based Africa Review website.
There are reports that Saidykhan is now faced with the risk of being deported back to The Gambia, where he had received death threats that resulted in his fleeing to neighboring Dakar, the capital city of Senegal.
Still being critical of the authoritative regime of Yahya Jammeh, Abubacarr Saidykhan’s safety could not be guaranteed when he is deported to Banjul.
On the case of Senegal and Gambia, the execution had cooled relations between Dakar and Banjul, when two Senegalese nationals Tabara Samba and Djibril Ba were among the nine executed death row prisoners.
Our source said that Yahya Jammeh wanted to suppress new revelations as a result he immediately appointed Amie Joof the lawyer of Tabara Samba, the only female (Senegalese) among the executed inmates as new minister of Justice in order to suppress new revelations.
