As reported on GRTS today President Jammeh has appointed Nana Grey Johnson the current Minister of information and Technology as second Secretary General to the State House. The release further stated that Mr. Johnson will double as Minister of Information, technology and infrastructure. However, the report did not state whether Dr. Ngogu Bah who is serving as Minister of Presidential Affairs and Secretary General will be replaced by Grey Johnson.
The appointment of Grey Johnson as Secretary General #2 raises more questions on what is going on within the Jammeh regime. The recent waves of firing and arrests of the solicitor General Pa Harry Jammeh, Justice Minister Jorbarteh and removal of the Auditor General Babucarr Sankareh raises more concerns and sends a chilling message across government quarters. This confusion is made worst by unconfirmed reports that the Operations Director of the National Intelligence Agency Mr. Louise Gomez has also reportedly been removed. However, our sources are yet to officially confirm the removal of Mr. Gomez.
The continuous erratic behavior of President Jammeh on how he appoints and fires staff at random is becoming increasingly worrisome. Close sources serving within the security corridors of the government have expressed grave concern that things are going out of control in Banjul. One source said that “President Jammeh’s biggest problem is that he has no system to follow” The source went further to insinuate that President Jammeh has pretty much lost control of governing. That President Jammeh reacts to every minor information that comes to him without consultation or advice from anybody. He therefore fires people from the first piece of information he gets which is mostly orchestrated by infighting within departments.
The situation in the Gambia and how the Jammeh government operates is unprecedented. Many close observers indicated that President Jammeh has alienated many people to the extent that he does not trust anybody anymore regardless of how loyal they demonstrate to him. This has been a pattern from almost two decades of hiring, firing, left right and center without reason. He has thrown his closest aides to jail without remorse. This raises a million dollar question on whether President Jammeh has any clue what he is doing… Though a supposedly rhetoric question, the emphatic answer is that President Jammeh has no damn clue on how to run a government and every decision he makes validates this point.
