PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF PDOIS
Sidia Jatta, who is currently on a lecture tour in Europe and is also mandated to address any issue regarding PDOIS agenda 2016 has sent a flyer indicating that a seminar is to be held on 7th August 2014 at the Information Center, Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) to deal with the Topic “HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE GAMBIA and the road to 2016 elections”
The flyer states that the speakers are Bakary Darboe and Sidia Jatta. Neither the Central Committee nor Sidia Jatta was consulted before the flyer was issued .
The Central Committee of PDOIS has mandated Sidia Jatta to interact with all Gambians in the Diaspora and prevail on them to see the need to convene all inclusive sovereign National Conferences whose objective would be to advocate for the enfranchisement of the diaapora, respect for human rights and promote electoral reform in collaboration with all the opposition parties in the Gambia united under the umbrella of Gambia Opposition United for Electoral Reform (GOFER).
PDOIS Central Committee has been adequately informed of the contradictions of the various groups which have emerged in the Diaspora and would not want to be part of any gathering that would plunge PDOIS in the controversies.
In this regard , it is the candid view of the Central Committee that Sidia Jatta’s trip should not give any advantage to any group in the diaspora to the disadvantage of others but should serve as a unifying factor. He therefore, would not be able to participate in the programme. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
