Ali Cham fondly Killa Ace is a young hip-hop artist who hailed from the Gambia. He was sent to exile in Senegal by Jammeh’s tyrannical regime after he released his album, “Ku boka si ghetahbee,” which went viral locally and on cyberspace. Killa Ace now reveals to Gainako that he is ending exile in March 2017 and will go back to the Gambia. Asked if he would have done anything different, Killa said, “I have no regrets being in exile.”
Killa Ace will release his new album, “Lyrical Revolution” in March 17th 2017 in the Gambia. Right after, he will work on launching his new movement, “Team Gom Sah Bopah” on the topic, “The Responsibility of Artists in Society” on Friday March 31st 2017. There will also be a “killa Ace Comeback Show” and Album Launch on April 1st 2017.
Asked on his feelings with the change in Government, Killa Ace said, “I feel delighted and this is what we have been fighting for. Now we have to fight what I called ‘Jammehism’, to change the attitudes and the way of thinking left by Jammeh.” It can be recalled that Lucky Dube, South Africa, accepted exile in Jamaica, to help fight apartheid through his reggae music.
Asked what makes Killa Ace different from other Senegambian artists who sang praise of Jammeh at a time of need for defiance, vibrant Ace said for him, the interest of the people supersedes individual interest. According to Ace, some artists are hypocritical and only after their personal interest. Ace went on to talk about the history of hip-hop as a tool to fight injustices and the need to guard such legacy. “I have been vocal from childhood, talking about injustices. I had personal encounter with Gambia’s security. I won’t do justice if i don’t fight. I am built for this and it might not be built for others,” Kila Ace chided.
According to Killa Ace, “Ku boka si ghetahbee” was released to highlight corruption and injustices in the Gambia. On the other hand, “Dehkahbee maa koh mom” is a caricature of Jammeh’s extremism after he kept openly saying that he owns the Gambia.
To his many fans, Killa Ace calls on you all, especially Diaspora Gambia, to support financially his homecoming, the new album, and new movement to be luanched soon. “Thank you. It has been a long journey and I look forward to uniting with my fans in the Gambia” Killa Ace ended.
