By Yero Jallow: Gainako’s Special Coverage
It looks like our nation is venting out. It is very emotional folks. At once, Gambians are beginning to take charge of their destiny. It is interesting hearing the different speakers. It is too soon to conclude wholly that voice has been regained, but all trends are indicative that we are headed in the right direction.
The question will be: What happens if they are denied rally permits? It was the same that sent Femi Peters to jail. Will Jammeh resort to arresting the Opposition if they show defiance to the permit issue? Is Jammeh accepting to issue rally permits out of fear of an uprising or is he reforming to correct some of the political blunders? The one time wrestler has showed all tendencies of political hypocrisy and arrogance.
In many others’ view, the equation remains unbalanced. We do have the UDP, GMC and PPP doing the rallies. PDOIS is not yet a part of the new group. Leader of the NRP, Hamat Bah was part of the group and recently quitted. The group hasn’t issued any public statement to that effect. Information reaching us at Gainako noted that Hamat’s quitting have something to do with the recently concluded parliamentary elections in Kiang where Hamat felt he wasn’t given the much needed backing by his peers.
All said and done, one is poised to ask: How will such a magnificent momentum continue to the end? Does that mean that there is likely a coalition in the next elections? Are the politicians interested in rehabilitating Jammeh even to where he will continue to stay in power? Many are of the believe Jammeh has committed too many wrongs that he cannot be rehabilitated. The many dead cannot come back. The only way is to have him exit the power seat so Gambians can make some reconciliation and fixes to restore the nation into a true democracy.
Aluta continua!
