Conference Call # and Code: (605) 475-5900 & 416 565 6#
Vision: ‘A Democratic Republic of The Gambia’
Mission: To Create the Requisite Human capacity capable of Democracy
A discussion forum about the state of our nation and our political struggle! We recognized and appreciated both past and present efforts. However we hold a strong conviction that our problems have long outgrown the organizing for the next elections and as well the ordinary work of political parties in a democratic environment.
We also believe the solution has to go to Banjul and work in Banjul. It’s not enough to make all the noise out in USA and/or Europe. In fact that could be only effective and as well complementary should there exist coherent efforts in Banjul.
It’s also our conviction that we need a ‘Functioning Institutional Democracy’ and not just shuffling the deck of cards (individual politicians). With current Gambia any likely successor to Yahya is likely to abuse the country because there exist no functioning system of checks and balances
Democracy is a lifestyle and not a government. It’s the lifestyle of the people that dictates the behavior of their leaders/government. Suffice to say we believe until we create that necessary human capable for democracy – no amount of changes will bring democracy to our shores.
Considering the above believes/convictions in relation to the missed opportunities of our struggle since 1994 coup we would like to take a relook at what have been done, what’s going on, what obtained in the global politics and to determine the best cause of action. Below is how we hope to methodically progress with this effort:
· The Problem and its Social Complexities
· The Environment – Our Socio-Cultures/Traditions/Economics/Local Politics, Sub-Regional and Regional Political Realities and the State Global Enthusiasm for Democracy, Human Rights and Good Governance
· Our Strengths, Weakness, Threats and Opportunities
· Strategy Goals
· Program Development
· Funding
· Institutional/Organizational Development
· Citizen Organization/Mobilization
· AOB (Any Other Business)
Again you are invited to participate first as a Gambian and second as a profession (journalism) some consider the 4th arm of a democratic government. On that note we consider your participation/involvement critical to the success of our efforts.
Looking forward to your sharing important matters of our country.
God Bless Gambia
