Following our news reports earlier this week on the alleged arrest and subsequent secret execution of the erstwhile fugitive CDS of the Gambia Colonel Ndure Cham, Gainako has exhausted all avenues within the Gambian security intelligence to verify the story but to no avail. Our high profile top Intelligence sources in the Jammeh administration Wednesday August 28 informed Gainako’s embedded reporter under the strict conditions of anonymity that they have also heard the news of Cham’s arrest and alleged summarily execution by the administration.
” We are neither aware of his arrest nor his execution but we will continue to do our investigations within the next week to verify the alleged story”
According to the sources going by patterns of the news and the secret operations of this regime, it could be true because the President has indeed been trying all his best to make sure that he got Ndure Cham out of Senegal since he is not comfortable with his presence next door which poses security threat to the government. The sources added that the alleged news of his arrest and killing is very serious and no one should take it lightly.
The sources went further to insinuate that since Ndure Cham’s attempted Coup in March 2006, the President in his Security briefings has always told top Security officers in the country to be mindful of any possible invasion by Cham from Neighboring Senegal who he regards as a very experienced and dangerous Soldier.
”As at now the situation is very confusing to the intelligent apparatus like wise others in the system because such a high profile issue should be known to top security officers. However, we will try all our best to authenticate this disturbing news which is very sad and worrisome”. One intelligent officer noted that he wouldn’t be surprised if the secret was handled by the President’s secret operating unit known as the Junglers. Some high profile cases have been hidden away from the main security units and the police in this country. So this wouldn’t be the first.
When quizzed about Ndure’s relationship with some intelligence officers and the military, the source said Cham is still well loved by many who are still loyal to him and this could potentially cause anger to some of his loyalists once they received the information. In fact this could be another contributing factor why the government would want to keep such secret from the public.
A source close to the Cham Family told our reporter since the latest news has been leaked, the family all over the country are living in a state of shocked highlighting that they are very confused as they are still not able to get in touch with Ndure Cham in Dakar.
Although Gainako is not able to verify the story, we strongly believe that the burden is on the Jammeh government to confirm or deny the alleged arrest and subsequent execution of the former CDS Colonel Ndure Cham. It is not only in the best interest of the government to speak on the story but also a smart idea to accept or dismiss the story in order to prevent fears within the security apparatus. It would also be politically smart on the Jammeh government whose image is already battered to put a stop to such alleged rumors of human rights violations. This will lend the government a little more credibility to its international partners especially in the aftermath of the declaration of moratorium on the execution of prisoners last year.
Gainako call on the international community to do everything it can to investigate this alleged execution of a top security officer. We also challenge the Senegalese government in the interest of transparency and promotion of sub-regional peace and security to investigate the story and dismiss any fears from Gambian dissidents that Senegal is allowing the Gambia government to invade its territory and kidnap Gambian dissidents who are legally granted Asylum to stay in Senegal. If Senegal cannot protect the security of ECOWAS citizens who are granted legal status in their country, then President Macky Sall would have a lot to answer to and his credibility as an elected Democrat would be called to question. Gainako is in a position to share our sources with international Rights groups who would be willing to investigate this disturbing story of kidnapping and alleged execution. Another quick solution to put an end to the rumors is for Ndure Cham to come out and speak to the Senegalese or online media if in fact he is still alive, free and well.
