Prisoners’ March: Where does the truth lies?
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song” (Maya Angelou, Poet, Educator, Activist).
I know. There are times when the real truth is neither the whole truth nor the public truth. The type of image pretention and political hypocrisy in today’s Gambia is mindboggling. I too had a chance to follow the so-called march by the released prisoners. I want to believe that the Gambia have a long way to go, for the wounds are too deep. It is clear that Jammeh is not the only problem. There seems to be this notion from speakers under duress that Jammeh is not behind their treachery, arrest, disappearance and tortures. It is clear that the system will continue to recycle some, and turn the country more than the lawless state that already exists. I firmly believe that the recently portrayed TV shows are not a true marriage, rather a marriage of convenience, where the captives were in short fed with scripts. Of course, their release, cannot be unwelcomed by friends, loved ones, etc. because it gets them out of the hell-holed prisons and puts them to society and their families, and it true that captivity cannot be compared to freedom, no matter what status comes with that freedom…but quite honest, their continuance on the same path that got them in trouble in the first place, puts it even obvious that most haven’t rehabilitated yet, even though they gave such an image.
There are some that spoke to keep their positions, other did to be recycled back to the tyrannical system, and others spoke to put in the dictatorship’s good books after the defeating fall out that victimized all of them, a byproduct of what most of them participated in. Whatever the reason for their speaking, praise-singing, and image falsifications, it doesn’t take long for the truth to come out. On that note, I call for continued vigilance, and everyone being just careful on how to associate. It is certain that all the political players on the wrong side of history will continue to live in fear, cornered and confused, because power belongs to the people.
Here again Citizens….power is in your hands. Speak up and stand for your rights!!
Best for the Friday,
Yero.
