The death of Alhagie Bubacarr Michael Baldeh former Minister of Youths Sports and Culture and member of Parliament for Basse and Jimara in the first republic has been announced. Mr. Baldeh died of a sudden illness in Dakar Senegal where he has been residing with his family for the last several years.
Son of the legendary Michael Baldeh of Basse Mansajang was a man of the people, a family man and a dynamic politician. Known for his love for people and family, Mr. Baldeh is well known and loved from all the four corners of the Gambia. As first minister of youth sports and culture, he revolutionized youth involvement in sports in Gambia and was a dynamic outspoken political icon during the PPP regime.
His service to nation and people extended to his new home in Dakar Senegal. Several Gambian dissidents who found themselves in Senegal found comfort in residing with him and worked with him while transitioning to their new life. He played a key role in unifying his people across Africa and was the secretary General of Tabital Pulaaku – an organization of all fulani speaking ethnic groups in Africa. He was simply a man with exceptional compassion, love for country, God and his people.
Alhagie Buba was a unique individual in the Baldeh Family of Masanjang, Fuladu and everywhere else in Gambia and Senegal. He was down to earth, humble and unifying to the family. He gives attention to everyone he meets and was extraordinarily brilliant. Mr. Baldeh is survived by his two wives, several children and grand children. His passing is a great loss to the Baldeh Family, friends and the Gambian nation as a whole. Gambia has lost a great son. Our deepest condolence to our moms Aja Nyama & Aja Kaddyjatou, Muhamed Baldeh, Maimuna and the rest of the family. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannah and may the family be comforted during these difficult times.
Reporting in deep grief, D. Baldeh
